Transcend.

Advocating for a Humanistic psychology to empower clients and clinicians since 2016.

I started my journey first as a consumer of mental health and partly my motivation for becoming a clinician was seeing how often so many people fell through the cracks in the system. I am passionate about this work not just because of its personal meaning, but also because of the countless others who I encountered along the way. People like you and me who without the support they needed unfortunately never made it out.

As a provider I now see that much of the injustices of our society are reflected in the way we perceive and provide mental health care. Such injustices are too numerous to list but perhaps more unsettling is that these injustices are at times disguised as academic or psychological insights that invalidate the experience of the client. Many failings of the current system are often ascribed to the client being difficult, resistant, or “low functioning.”

Perhaps it would be wise to simply begin by acknowledging the reality of mental health care as experienced by clients and clinicians in the field. Not an abstract idea, but their real experience.

Individual counseling is a one-on-one discussion between the counselor and the client. The two form an alliance, relationship or bond that enables them to process the reality of the client’s experience. The goal is to facilitate the client’s personal growth.

Adolescent Therapy

Adolescent therapy involves addressing the emotional and psychological needs of the client in a way that is developmentally appropriate. The goal is to foster the clients developing identity while supporting their efforts in exploring the world around them.

Couple Therapy

Couple’s face many challenges and relationships are difficult to maintain even in the best of scenarios. Often in the midst of distress partners retreat from one another or resort to quarrels or blame in order to mask an underlying loss of connection. The goal is to facilitate an empathic connection by enabling the couple in expressing their pain and being open to one another’s experience.

Family Therapy

Family therapy often centers on identifying relational patterns between immediate family members and across generations. The goal is to create a balanced structure in the family to address both the collective needs of the group and the needs of its individual members.
